Most of the time, a character's "representation" being shown and ""erased by blackwashing"" is white or being whitewashed. You know what makes blackwashing/racebending inappropriate? when it's done to stereotype an already marginalized group of people and belittle them as much as whitewashing does. Which IS a massive problem. But that's not what the anon below me is worried about, is it.
Many people add on their own race headcanons for a character, oftentimes a projection and alongside the chara's previous rep if they genuinely had it. Why do people do this? Because they see so little of themselves in media :sob: It's not erasure. And honestly this whole thing is /nm, just please educate yourselves while also keeping REAL PEOPLE into consideration. Bc again. we're talking about the silly fictional character we all play with like dolls.

I see what you mean I think, but if people have headcanons then I do too and btw usually I respect other's ideas and be on my way, not bothering to make drama talking about it. I have nothing against it and let people enjoy what they want, but you seem to be very press about it since you wrote this long paragraph.. /nm I understand but just mind your business and I wont mind yours. I wish more people understood that Blackwashing is a real thing.
POC representation IS important but its not cool to change a characters representation just bc you feel like it

Yeah I think there are just some cases where you can't change a certain person's race but I doubt people would care because they say it's just fictional characters...I just have to respect their headcanons and ignore them honestly. Also Im sorry to hear that you're being attacked too :sob:, but thank you so much, the same goes for you!!

Maybe look up the word blackwashing? It's a real term, and what I'm talking about is that it depends on the nationality of the character, like characters that are officially viewed as having white skin that should be POC instead like that's good, I have nothing against it.
